摘要The rapid casting process based on SLS prototypes is investigated in this paper. The polystyrene (PS) is preferred for SLS prototype powder material. The varieties of physics-chemical characteristics during melting and thermal degradation of the prototypes are conducted. It is evident that prototypes can be removed almost entirely, which is similar to the lost wax casting process. So the rapid casting process and removing process of prototypes are developed. Moulds making in rapid casting is an extremely important procedure. Through many experiments, the plaster mould and the investment casting shell mould suitable for the rapid casting process are rebuilt. Some Al-alloy parts are fabricated successfully with the developed rapid casting process. © (2005) Trans Tech Publications.
