Enhanced luminescence and wear resistance of copper matrix phosphorescent composite with surface-coated phosphors

摘要To prevent thermal quenching and luminescence intensity decreasing by contacting metal ions during thermal spraying, the surface of luminescent phosphor SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ was coated by SiO2 via a sol-gel process, in the presence of tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) as silicon source. The luminescence and friction properties of phosphorescence copper-matrix composite samples were observed by XRD, SEM, fluorometric assay and friction and wear tester, and those properties distinction between uncoated and coated treatment were compared and analyzed. The results showed that thermal quenching and metal ions contact quenching of surface coated SrAl2O4:Eu2+,Dy3+ were efficiently avoided, while wear rate decreased. The optimum luminous effect and wear resistance can be achieved when surface coating ratio reaches 10%. © 2016, Materials Review Magazine. All right reserved.
