摘要Attapulgite (ATP)-based absorbent was synthesized by freeze-drying method and thermolysis treatment. Compared with natural ATP, the absorbent (named as AEG) prepared from ATP/polyethylene glycol composite shows better absorption performance for metal ions. By modification with polyvinylidene fluoride and polydimethylsiloxane, the treated AEG shows excellent surface wettability with a water contact angle of 150.3 degrees. The changes in surface wettability of treated AEG should be attributed to the mixture of low-surface-energy polyvinylidene fluoride and deposition of a hydrophobic silicon coating on AEG surface. Due to the large pore size and excellent surface wettability, the resulting ATP-based absorbent shows high selectivity and absorption capacity for removal of oils and organics from water, which may have great potentials for water treatment, oil spills cleanup, environmental issues, and so on.
