Influence of coating thickness on tension and compression fatigue performance of flame thermal spraying components

摘要In order to study the effect of different coating thickness on the fatigue performance of the samples processed with thermal spraying, Ni60A self-fluxing alloy coating of different thickness was made on 40Cr steel substrate, using technology of flame thermal spraying. The phase composition and the microstructure of the fatigue fracture were studied by means of XRD,SEM and EDX. Fatigue lifetime of thermal spraying samples and matrix samples were tested by using electro-hydraulic high-frequency fatigue test machine. The results show that the reasonable thickness of coating is 0.25 mm for the designed samples. The surface of Ni60A coating was composed of Cr7C3, Ni, Cr3Ni5Si2, CrB, Ni3B etc. after the refusion time of 2 min. The interface and the surface of coating endure more load of tension and compression than the middle coating when the thickness of coating is reasonable, so the tension and compression fatigue lifetime of thermal spraying samples is longer than matrix samples. The tension and compression fatigue lifetime goes down with the increase in the thickness of coating when the thickness of coating is more than 0.25 mm. The fatigue lifetime of components is closely related to the number and the average size of nonmetallic particles and pores.
