Optical Properties of SrB_6O_(10):RE (RE=Eu~(3+), Tb~(3+)) under Vacuum Ultraviolet Excitation

AbstractRare earth ions (Eu~(3+) or Tb~(3+)) doped SrB_6O_(10) phosphors were prepared by sol-gel method. Their photoluminescence properties under vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation were evaluated. In the excitation spectra, a strong absorption band of the host lattice was observed in the VUV region. It indicates that SrB_6O_(10):RE (RE=Eu~(3+), Tb~(3+)) have better luminescence performance under VUV excitation. The quenching concentrations are 30% for SrB_6O_(10):Eu~(3+) and 25% for SrB_6O_(10):Tb~(3+), respectively. SrB_6O_(10):Eu~(3+) shows better color saturation than commercial red phosphor (Y,Gd)BO_3:Eu~(3+) (KX-504A), and SrB_6O_(10):Tb~(3+) has shorter decay time than commercial phosphor Zn_2SiO_4:Mn~(2+) (KX-502).
