AbstractLet X and Y be two nonnegative absolutely continuous random variables with respective distribution functions F_X and G_Y such that F_X(0) = G_Y(0) = 0, right-continuous inverse functions F_X~(-1) and G_Y~(-1), and survival functions F_X and G_Y, respectively. We write X≤_(dmr1) Y, and say X is smaller than Y in the DMRL (decreasing mean residual life) order, if the function G_Y(x)dx / _(F_X~(-1))~F_X(x)dx is increasing in p (0,1). Some characterization properties of the DMRL order are investigated. The closure and reversed closure properties of the DMRL order are obtained. Meanwhile, some illustrative examples that meet the DMRL order are shown as well.
