Power-rate-distortion optimization for mobile sign language video encoding

摘要The primary challenge to design a mobile sign language communication system is overcoming the limit of battery power. In this paper, we propose an analytic power-rate-distortion (PRD) model to obtain optimized tradeoffs among power consumption, bit rate, and distortion for mobile devices with limited power source. In particular, numbers of different macroblock (MB) coding modes are intelligently controlled through an optimization process according to their distinct PRD performance. Both the analytic and simulation results have shown the applicability of our scheme for mobile sign language video encoding. © 2014 ISSN 1881-803X.
